                                Oral Language and the Common Core
Focus on Speaking and Listening, and Language Standards

Supporting teachers’ understanding of oral language development promotes equity and access to instruction for all students including English Learners. The session will focus on the speaking and listening, and language expectations for all students in order to be College and Career Ready.

How to Use Read-Alouds to Build Vocabulary and Influence Writing 
This session explores how to collect vocabulary and phrases from Read-Alouds to use in writing. It also explores how to identify author’s craft such as comparisons, and emphasis in Read-Alouds and then how to use author’s craft in one’s own writing. The audience will participate in creating leads, and character descriptions. Students’ writings will be shared.

Struggling Reader Workshop
This Workshop will cover research based ideas and tips to help ALL children succeed in reading. Demonstrations, handouts, and ideas for practicing these techniques with your child will be included.

Teaching is an Art and Science. This session uncovers the principles of the Art of Placement known as Feng Shui and the Science. Learn what to keep in mind when designing a classroom that promote health, a sense of wellbeing, and the joy  in learning and teaching.

The Common Core and Your Child
Learn why we have switched to the Common Core State Standards, how the learning in the classroom is changing, and how that will affect homework. We will also take a look at the new standardized test.

California ELA/ELD Framework and the NEW California ELD Standards
Strategies from the new framework that will support English Learners to access grade level content will be highlighted. We will explore the many vignettes in the framework that provide clear models of how the ELA/ELD standards work together in the classroom to support all learners.
