Dear Colleague,

Over the past three decades, the teaching of reading has become increasingly complex, yet there are those among us who, although relatively new to the profession, provide leadership that supports other educators to meet these challenges. We should take time from our busy schedules to recognize and honor these exceptional professionals.

The Sybil Hoffman Young Leader Award, presented by the Alameda County Reading Association, is an opportunity for us to provide recognition to a deserving colleague.

A teacher, administrator, or other certificated person who works in Alameda County, has had their teaching credential less than eight years, and who has demonstrated growing leadership skills is eligible for this award. Such contribution is understood to include devotion of time and energy above and beyond the usual professional obligation to teach children. The nominee need not be a member of any reading association.

Your cooperation in helping to find a deserving recipient is very much appreciated. The award will be presented in the spring at the Alameda County Reading Association Awards Celebration.

Applications are Due by September 20th.

Sincerely,
